The Sovereign has a ton of redeeming features to make up for its lack of speed... the Whites does not. Oh, unless you want to scroll through a million menu items and make 1000 adjustments per site.

Detectors have a language and you have to listen to the sound and it'll tell you what you have found. I make my living digging for gold and my older minalab GP3000 pays the bills. It finds gold where Whites GMTs and Tesoro Lobos et al would do nothing but act confused in the mineralized soil.
Minelab GP and GPXs are the best gold detectors under $20k in the world. Period.

Sorry you were not successful with the Minelab's. Minelab metal detectors are not magic wands. It's takes hundreds, if not thousands of hours to become a successful nugget hunter. Who thought finding gold nuggets was easy, you? I found tons of iron rubbish with them, but many .... many pounds of gold.
Without a doubt, the Minelab GPX-4500 is one of the best handheld metal detectors on the market for gold gold nuggets.
